CSIR-NAL Director Visits ATIRA Ahmedabad to strengthen collaboration in Advanced Composites and Technical Textiles

Dr. Abhay Anant Pashilkar, Director of CSIR-National Aerospace Laboratories, along with Mr. Tarun Kumar Pardhi, Chief Scientist and Head of the Centre for Carbon Fibres and Prepregs, visited Ahmedabad Textile Industry’s Research Association in Ahmedabad to explore collaborative opportunities in advanced composites, technical textiles, and high-performance materials.
Strategic Discussions on Composites, Carbon Fibre, and High-Performance Materials
The visit enabled in-depth discussions on ongoing R&D initiatives, future technology roadmaps, and strategic priorities at both ATIRA and CSIR-NAL. Key focus areas included:

Showcasing ATIRA’s Composites Infrastructure and Manufacturing Capabilities
The CSIR-NAL delegation was given a comprehensive tour of ATIRA’s facilities, highlighting its end-to-end capabilities across the composites value chain, including:

- Glass, carbon and aramid weaving
- Radial braiding and pultrusion technologies
- Solvent-based prepreg manufacturing systems
- Cleanroom facilities (Class 10,000 and Class 100,000)
- Upcoming autoclave infrastructure for aerospace-grade composite manufacturing
ATIRA demonstrated its strengths in R&D, prototyping, and commercialization, with applications spanning space, defence, communications, infrastructure, and mobility sectors.
CSIR-NAL highlights Indigenous Carbon Fibre and Prepreg Capabilities
During the technical session, CSIR-NAL presented its capabilities in carbon fibre and prepreg manufacturing, emphasizing ongoing efforts toward indigenous material development and self-reliance in advanced composites.
The ATIRA team showcased key projects under its Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Composites, particularly in:

- Development of assembled and sub-assembled composite systems
Expanding NAL–ATIRA Collaboration in Composites R&D
