  • Pioneer Library in the field of Textile and Allied Subjects-Special Library


  • Established in the year 1950 for serving the ATIRA staff members in R & D activities


  • Provides various services to staff members of Member Mills of ATIRA, Staff member of Non-Member Industries, Students (Final year) and Research Scholars of Academic Institutions/Research Organizations, etc., (S & T, Textile Technology, Chemical Technology, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Industrial Management)


  • The ATIRA library services are modified according to the demand. The objective is to develop a library system that can adapt itself to the needs of the clientele from time to time.


  • ATIRA Library follows Universal Decimal Classification and Open Access System

  • Regular subscription of Approx. 200 Journals and Dailies-Economic Times, Times of India, Hindu, Paper Clippings on Textile Industry


  • Rich collection of Encyclopedias, Directories, Handbooks, Standards, Non-Book Materials, Research Reports, BIOS and FIAT Reports, Thesis, Conference Proceedings, Annual Reports, etc., in the filed of textiles and allied subjects.

  • Sale of ATIRA Publications (Including Books/Monographs): Useful information derived from the work done in ATIRA is disseminated through various publications in the form of various types of reports including books and monographs. These ATIRA publications are distributed and sold by ATIRA Library.

Membership




  • ATIRA Staff Members


  • Staff Members of Member Industries of ATIRA

  • Five Cards to each Member Industry

  • One Book per card will be issued (except reference book, Bound Volumes, Loose issues of Journals) on monthly renewal basis.  Reissue will be done once only for a book, if there is no claim/reservation for it.

  • There are no charges for the member mill –Staff members

  • Rs. 1000/- will be refundable deposit and Rs. 100/- will be the charges for individual membership (Two tickets to each individual member for the period April to March).



  • Staff Members of Non-Member Industries such as Chemical Processing units, Textile Units, Dyes and Dyestuff Industries, Pharmaceutical Companies, Textile Auxiliary Manufacturing units and Faculty of Academic Institutions, etc. (No Borrowing Facility)

  • Rs. 1000/- Non-refundable one time registration fee per company
  • Rs. 1200/- Membership fee/service charges per person for the period of one year (i.e. January to December)
  • One time benefit for quarter payment for new membership @ Rs. 300/- quarter (i.e. total four quarters divided from January to December)



  • Final year Science and Technology students and researchers from Academic Institutions, R & D Organizations: e.g. Textile Technology, Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Technology, Industrial Management, Chemical Technology, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, etc.

  • Rs. 750/- membership fee/service charges per person for the period of one year (i.e. July to June)

  • Quarter payment benefit @ Rs. 300/- quarter (i.e. total four quarters divided from July to June)

The following adhoc publications published by the library which are used to inform the readers, about the documents available in the library:



  • List of ATIRA Publications:
    This subjectwise complete list of ATIRA Publication was first compiled in 1966 from various sources. This information is regularly updated in the catalogue card form and also on computer. This broad subjectwise list of ATIRA Publications is updated and memographed regularly and sent to those who want and request for the same. This is a very useful source for dated on knowledge/information generated by ATIRA. It lists over 500 various adhoc publications, books, etc. published by ATIRA.


  • List of papers presented at Seminar, Conferences, etc., and papers published in various scientific and technical periodicals by ATIRA Research Workers
    This information is regularly updated and maintained in three categories of catalogue card, i.e. Subject wise, Author-wise & Chronological card format. This information is only one source to ATIRA, which is very useful to individual research workers of ATIRA as well as to library and others for replying some technical queries.


  • List of various standards other than Indian Standards – This information is regularly updated and maintained in catalogue-card form.


  • List of publications published by other Textile Research Institutions – This list is updated and maintained in the form of catalogue card.


  • List of back volumes of periodicals available in ATIRA Library. The complete updated list was published in the year 1981. However, the complete updated database is maintained in catalogue-card form.

National Information Centre for Textile and Allied Subject (NICTAS)

NICTAS belongs to the national chain of centres set up in different subjects by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Department of Science and Industrial Research (DSIR) under the National Information System for Science and Technology (NISSAT) Scheme. The NICTAS facility has been built up as a co-operative effort of all textile research associations in India

Objectives:



  • To integrate the economic, scientific and technical information systems and services related to textile and allied subjects into an effective network



    • With the cooperation of textile research institutions, industry, trade and their associations, Government and other agencies and


    • Through links with similar information centres outside India



  • To build up a comprehensive collection of textile information from all available sources in the world with special emphasis on India.


  • To develop resources and to propagate information in ways appropriate to the needs of Indian users.


  • To create awareness amongst all user groups and to educate them in utilization of information.

Information Services Available :

1. Literature Search:

Off-line Database


To provide a list of documents published on specified subjects during a specified period. NICTAS has Textile Information in an abstract form starting from 1978-2002. This fast, pinpointed and low cost facility, is not available anywhere in India. Information on any aspect of TEXTILE can be searched in this database. The database contains all the published literature pertaining to textile and allied subjects.

On-line Database
On-line searching for information means to access information from Newspapers, Journals, Conference Proceedings, Books, Reports, Patents etc. stored electronically in a a large computers. Searching for information on-line, even from remote places like Ohio or Chicago, takes far less time than an equivalent manual search. It saves time, money and manpower.

It has an access centre for informational Data Centres which enables to have global information on a various of subjects.

  • To investigate industry trends, to know the state of the art of a particular industry or products.
  • To obtain information on new patents and the whole gamut of development in the world.

    Procuring published papers, patents, standards, reports, conference proceedings, directories, etc. from National and International sources.

    3. Translation Service:
    Translation into English and Indian languages.

    4. Referal Service:
    Giving reference to other organisations which have/can supply the needed information.

    5. Reference Services:

    Answers to a various queries :

  • Names/addresses of manufacturers and suppliers in India/abroad.
  • Patents on topic/item.
  • Standards on test methods/products, etc.

    Supply of photocopies.

    Supply of photocopies of content pages of journals received by ATIRA Library/NICTAS.
